One reason why FNV is great because Obsidian knew what rules they wanted their world to have. They just wanted to make things look and feel 'cool' instead of putting thought into it. Now I'm not the most pedantic gamer around, and I am willing to suspend my belief when playing video games but there comes a point where it is obvious that the writers did not care about the story or the world that they were building. So why the hell did the wastelanders build a city around a nuclear bomb? Water is scarce and resources are limited. FO3 established that everyone is struggling to survive in the wasteland. The whole idea of Megaton is not only implausible but also blatantly stupid. For better or worse, FNV made me reevaluate the world that FO3 was trying to build. I love FNV because the world made sense and the writing was top-notch.
